Abstract Submission

Young Investigators Forum (YIF)

The Young Investigators Forum (YIF) at the Toronto Complement Conference (TCC) acknowledges excellence in complement-focused research by a scientist who is in the early stages of an independent career.

YIF provides an opportunity to showcase your research, share ideas, forge collegial connections, and acquire the necessary skills and relationships to increase your research productivity and catalyze your career trajectory in Complement research.  

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Junior Faculty (Instructors or Assistant Professors not more than 5 years from first faculty appointment)

    • Clinician Scientist (MD/DO +/- PhD in active patient care and conducting any lab-based or clinical research in Complement)

    • Research Scientist (MD/DO and/or PhD conducting full time lab-based research in Complement)

  • Fellows and Postdoctoral Researchers (Must be enrolled in a fellowship program or have completed a PhD program within the past 5 years)

    • Clinical Fellow (MD/DO +/- PhD conducting any clinical or lab-based research in Complement)

    • PhD Postdoctoral Researcher (PhD conducting lab-based research in Complement)

  • Abstracts/papers to be presented at future medical meetings are eligible for submission

  • One submission per Young Investigator will be accepted.

  • Only original work done by the Young Investigator will be accepted.

Instruction for Abstract Preparation and Submission:

Submit all abstracts to: to.complement.conference@gmail.com

Identification:

In the body of your email please include the following identifying information:

  • Full name, degree(s), credential(s)

  • Mailing address, telephone and e-mail

  • Current institution or previous institution (where research was conducted, if applicable)

  • Submitting author and study type: (Clinician Scientist, Research Scientist, Clinical Fellow, or Postdoctoral Research Fellow)

Format:

Abstracts should consist of a brief title (bolded) descriptive of the research. Include first and last names and degrees of the authors. Underline the presenting author’s name and list the name and location of the institution where research was completed.

Abstract text (Microsoft Word document) must be 500 words or less. Please make sure all figures are high resolution (at least 300 dpi).

Organize the body of the abstract in the following manner:
a) Disclosure of relevant financial relationships (not included in word count)
b) A sentence stating the purpose of the study
c) A brief statement of methods
d) A summary of results
e) A statement of conclusions reached.

Call for Abstract Deadline:

The deadline for abstract submission is Friday October 14, 2022 at 11:59 pm ET. The Conference co-chairs will select the awardee, who will be notified of the decision on Friday October 28, 2022.

Presentation and Announcement of the Award:

The session will include small group discussions and networking in addition to an oral presentation by each finalist.

Expert Faculty Judges will review and score all submissions. The top 6 abstracts will be invited to present their research at the 3rd annual TCC with a 5-minute formal presentation followed by a 2-minute question-and-answer period.

At the TCC conference, the top 3 abstract presentations will be awarded as follows.

  1. First prize: $2,000.00 CAD

  2. Second prize: $1,500.00 CAD

  3. Third prize: $1,000.00 CAD
