Dr. Richard Kelly is a Consultant Haematologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds, UK. He is the Leeds joint lead for the English National Paroxysmal Nocturnal Haemoglobinuria (PNH) Service.

He qualified with honours from the University of St. Andrews and completed his training at the University of Manchester.

He was involved in setting up the English National PNH service in 2007. In 2014 Dr. Kelly received his PhD thesis on “The Pathogenesis of PNH“ with an award for research excellence from the University of Leeds and he has published key papers on PNH in peer reviewed journals.

Dr Kelly is a board member of the International PNH Interest Group (IPIG) with responsibility for the design and running of the planned IPIG global PNH registry. He chairs the IPIG registry stakeholder committee and sits on the IPIG registry committee.

He has been a regional lead for the acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) service since 2014. He is a principal investigator for clinical trials in PNH, ALL, acute myeloid leukaemia and haemolytic anaemias. He also sits on the NCRI ALL subgroup.

Dr Kelly is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and a member of the British Society for Haematology. He is also an examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists.

Dr. Shruti Chaturvedi is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. She specializes in disorders of hemostasis and thrombosis, particularly immune mediated thrombotic disorders and thrombotic microangiopathy. Dr. Chaturvedi’s research program is currently focused on establishing the epidemiology and mechanisms of long term adverse vascular sequelae in thrombotic microangiopathies including thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, with the goal of developing testable interventions to reduce morbidity and mortality in this population. Her lab has established the risk rate of stroke and cardiovascular events in TTP survivors, and the role of remission ADAMTS13 as targetable risk factor. The other focus of her research is the role of complement activation and genetic variations in complement genes in thrombotic disorders including antiphospholipid syndrome. She has received research support from the National Institutes of Health, Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society and American Society of Hematology.

Dr. Dimitrios Mastellos is a Research Director at the National Center for Scientific Research ‘Demokritos’ in Athens, Greece. Dimitrios studied Biology at the University of Patras, Greece, and earned his PhD in Immunology from the Medical School of the same institution. His research has been focused on various facets of complement biology and inflammation and on studying the broader implications of complement-mediated networks in health, disease and therapy. During his postdoctoral training with Professor John Lambris at the University of Pennsylvania, he applied animal models to interrogate the role of complement-triggered signaling pathways in diverse pathophysiological processes and immunological milieus. His research at ‘Demokritos’ is focused on how complement modulates innate immune activation, host-pathogen interactions and inflammatory signaling in health and disease. His group is also involved in developing novel biodiagnostic tools for monitoring complement activity in clinical disorders and assessing the biological action and therapeutic efficacy of complement inhibitors currently in clinical trials.

Seppo Meri is Professor of Immunology at the Medical Faculty, University of Helsinki, Finland, and the Chief Physician of Research in Microbiology and Immunology at HUSLAB, laboratory of the Helsinki University Hospital. He is also a visiting professor at the Humanitas University, Milan, Italy.

Seppo served as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas in 1988 and in 1989–90 as an EMBO fellow at MRC, Cambridge, UK. His research interests include diseases related to disturbances in complement regulation, role of complement-in vascular disease and autoimmunity. He has published > 270 original research articles and 130 reviews or textbook chapters on complement, autoimmunity and microbial escape of immunity.

He has been the President of the Scandinavian Society for Immunology 2001-2007 and of the European Complement Network 2001-2003. He served as the Secretary General of the International Union of Immunological Societies 2010-2016 and as a member of the FEBS Publication Committee 2014-2018. He is a Member of the Finnish National Academy of Sciences since 2009.

Andrew Bomback, MD, MPH is Associate Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he also serves as Co-Director of the Center for Glomerular Diseases. His research focuses on novel therapies for glomerular diseases.

Dr. Ted Warkentin, MD, is a clinical and laboratory hematologist and transfusion medicine director at Hamilton General Hospital, and Professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine, and the Department of Medicine, at McMaster University. He has a clinical and research interest in acquired thrombocytopenias and coagulopathies—most notably HIT and ischemic limb losses complicating DIC. Dr. Warkentin devised the “4Ts”, a widely-used pretest probability scoring system for HIT. He was a co-winner (with Prof. John Kelton) of the 2015 Prix Galien Canada Prize, the highest award for Canadian scientists who have made significant advances in pharmaceutical research. He helped to identify "spontaneous HIT" and VITT (vaccine-induced thrombocytopenia/thrombosis). He has co-edited 5 editions of the book, Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia, has authored 107 book chapters and 413 peer-reviewed articles, and has given 900 lectures to national and international audiences.

Richard Coward is the Professor of Renal medicine at the University of Bristol, and a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at Bristol Royal Hospital for Sick Children. Richard did his undergraduate training at Bristol University and then specialised in Paediatrics. His clinical training was undertaken in the South West of England, Great Ormond Street, London and the Starship hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. It was during this time that he decided to specialise in Paediatric Nephrology.

In 2001 he was awarded a PhD fellowship funded by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Wellchild to study the molecular biology of the podocyte. In 2006 he secured an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship enabling him to work in the world leading glomerular laboratory in Toronto, Canada with Professor Susan Quaggin to extend his studies. His research interests have a focus on insulin signalling in the kidney and his group use a variety of in vitro and in vivo techniques to investigate this focus.

In 2013 he secured a prestigious MRC Senior Clinical Fellowship to develop his laboratory and research interests further, whilst continuing to have a clinical commitment in Paediatric Nephrology. In recent years he has become interested in the mechanisms underpinning Haemolytic Uraemic Syndromes.
